Highlander Fic Search (yeah, fat chance...)

Ok, this is weird, old, and not a little twisted but I just rewatched scenes from the 'Horsemen' episodes on Youtube...

You out there who once dabbled in 'Highlander' - ever come across fic pairing Kronos and Richie? I've been wanting this ever since Kronos turned up, and there seems to be *nothing* out there I can find, and it's just a crime against darkfic!

Halp!?!

FICLET: Resurrection (Rose, Albus, Scorpius, PG)

Title: Resurrection
Characters: Rose, Albus, Scorpius, and… well, you'll see :)
Rating: PG
Note: Written for [info] melfinatheblue for the prompt "Next Gen, a New War" (and this was the most fun of the three to write, I have to admit, *g*). About 1330 words.

FICLET: Fugitive (Percy/Penelope, PG)

Another of those [info - community] ownficfest ficlets - the real full-fledged fic is still with the beta (yeah, 'after the fact'... which'll tell you just about how late I was turning it in...).

Title: Fugitive

FIC REC (omg!)

Ok, I was going to do the sensible thing and sit on my recs from [info] hp_darkfest and others until I have a sizable lot and throw them out all at once. But then I read *this*, and there's just no way I can't share right now:

Descent by anonymous (Harry/Lucius, Harry/Draco, Snape/Lucius, NC-17)
Summary: Harry seeks distraction in darker spaces.

This pretty much hit all my buttons and kinks at once - hatesex, mindfuck of the most twisted kind, deathwish!Harry (my guiltiest pleasure), plotting, power play, dark without going over the top...

It's the sort of old-school Harry/Malfoys fic that made me fall in love with both H/D and H/L way back, and that's incredibly rare nowadays - the type of fic that calls to mind the early Beloved Enemies group before it turned into L K Hamilton-type fluff and then was pulled by Yahell. But it isn't *just* nostalgia - it's also extremely well written, the psychology is excellent throughout (especially when it comes to Harry's state of mind), and the sex is scorchingly *hot*.

Anyway, it turned me into a gleeful bundle of squee despite still being under the weather, so... Do give it a shot - it's awesome :).

Drabble: Refuge (Tom, Slughorn, PG)

Am ill like heck with stomach bug, monthly TMI, headache from hell and cough all rolled into one (not a good combo, believe me), and should be in bed really, only that I can't lie down any more. I did a handful of giftlets for [info - community] ownficfest that were intended as drabbles, but well, it never quite works out...

Life... or Squee, Part 2

I've been a miserable LJ writer recently, and not even for lack of events.

There has been... HP Halloween at CadhayMalfoy Manor near Exeter, which rocked too much for words, and I got to see a lot of my favourite people again! We had a real manor to play in, with all the historical atmosphere and none of the drawbacks, and a maze and otters (omg, the *otters*!) and owls and birds of prey and wandering kittens and the most adorable toy otter from [info - personal] lazy_neutrino, and HP Halloween dinner with serpentine chocolate fountain dessert, and chattering about fanfic on lazy mornings, and playing Aurors and Death Eaters after midnight in the moonlight (ok, the moonlight didn't favour the Aurors, but...). It was gorgeous and fun and *way* too short, but with enough happy memories to fuel an entire stableful of Patroni.

There was the road trip with [info] chthonya and [info] lkaet before and after, which took us back via Gloucester Cathedral (omg, Hogwarts corridors, and the grave of Edward II of Marlowe and Jarman fame and amazing modern stained-glass art). And on the way down, I decided that the Yorkshire Moors are among the most beautiful landscapes ever. Bleak makes me happy, and it was the most stunning sort of bleak imaginable.

Then, back home, there was [info - community] ownficfest to wrap up, drabbles to write, work going insane again, flat cleaning to be postponed...

Last weekend I got a ticket to the E-Town Light Orchestra concert, which was great fun, and reminded me of how totally I've neglected a budding love for classical/orchestral music over the past, well, decade or so.

And tonight I came home to a lovely postcard from [info - personal] liriaen, who pretty much travelled to my hometown to send it :).

So well... life has been *very* good, but also very busy. And suddenly it's almost Christmas, oh noes!

Emergency Recipe

Woe! I had scones ready, and clotted cream, and then my strawberry jam had gone... well, pretty off.

So I substituted with honey (the grainy, non-liquid one), a touch of cinnamon, and one or two drops of whisky on top of each half, which turned out a bit sweet, but very jummy. The whisky toned down the sweetness just enough.

'twas good. :)

... [info - community] ownficfest has started posting today over on LJ (omg, can't wait to share more gorgeous fic!).

Elections and Beauty

In honour of the German election result, I give you a spectacularly fitting quote by Barbara Hambly:

"There seems to be one immutable force besides Death and Time and Change - Stupidity."

Mishaps While Writing

There are timeline problems - I'm sure lots of you have encountered those before. And then, there are timeline mess-ups spanning 35 bloody *years*! Argh, argh, argh, argh, ARGH!

I think this calls for bringing out the chocolate-covered peanuts which symbolise my brain. And we tend to tease Teh Cat for having half a peanut's worth of brain...

And then could someone please rid me of that Hugo/Lucius slavefic bunny that's trying to take over my brain. This is not the time, dammit!

A Parcel of FIC RECS

Here's a handful of recs I've been sitting on for quite some time...

Malefesto, Destroyer of Worlds by [info] alyxbradford [Marauders, gen, PG]
Summary: In his fourth year, Sirius sends away for a mail-order pet, and gets a lot more than he bargained for. Hilarity ensues.
Hilarity describes it well. It's wonderful, tongue-in-cheek Marauderfic with beautiful characterisation all round, shiny writing, and a plot that manages to pull off crack and canon in a perfect mix.

Said The Irresistible Force To The Immovable Object by [info - personal] lavillanueva [Harry/Scorpius, NC-17]
Summary: Meet Scorpius Malfoy: sixteen, blond, blue-eyed, and the bane of Harry Potter's entire existence.
Seductionfic at its best - Scorpius is like an inventive force of nature, and poor Harry really doesn't stand much of a chance. Although he tries :). Adorably cute and very funny.

Memoria in Aeterna by [info - personal] potteresque_ire [Draco/Albus Severus, NC-17, 4 parts]
Summary: At age fifteen, an incendiary political debate had made Albus Potter the victim of a hideous crime. Three years later, he was living a life of drugs and promiscuity in the rookery at Knockturn, the newly established Preservation District for the pure-blood families of Wizarding Britain.
Y'know, that thrill you get when you read something that's taking a really innovative, different look at the wizarding world? Mix in absolutely superb style and imagery? This fic has all of it. The most unique thing I've seen in ages, with an emotional impact that left me reeling.

The Unicorn Incident by [info - personal] who_la_hoop [Scorpius/Albus, NC-17, 2 parts]
Summary: Growing up is hard to do, especially in the shadow of your father’s reputation. Scorpius Malfoy has a tough time keeping his resolution to be the best Slytherin he can be when schoolboy games, unicorns, incompetent friends and a beloved enemy all conspire to teach him something different – and rather wonderful – about himself.
[info - personal] who_la_hoop is doing some of the most brilliant Potter/Malfoy slash around, with a perfect mix of humour, vivid characterisation and scorching hotness. Meet Albus Potter, reluctant Slytherin, and Scorpius Malfoy, who just can't stop obsessing about him...

And finally, my subjective favourite - well, there's no rule saying that recs have to be HP recs, right?

The Via Lata Diaries by [info - personal] liriaen [Lucifer/Jeshua, PG-13 to hard R, chaptered]
Summary: At the end of time, there's a prize to be to won, a price to be paid, and one or three lessons to be learnt.
Semi-apocalyptical present-day bible slash with some of the finest writing you'll find. Yes, the subject matter may creep me out on one level, but this series is the most twisted and beautiful thing ever, and it keeps me pouncing on every new chapter like Teh Cat after a piece of string. I have the pleasure of having a lot of amazing writers on my flist, but if I had to pick one I'd want to see published, it's [info - personal] liriaen - for originality and style and cutting amazingly deep in that remarkably sparse way of hers...

Fanartly Squee

First of all:
HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY to [info - personal] melusinahp and [info] midnitemaraud_r!
*hugs*
I hope you had a lovely time!

Yesterday was my lucky day. First, I got a postcard from [info - personal] liriaen from Japan (*squishes* - [info - personal] liriaen, not the card, obviously!). And then I received in the mail a beautiful two-volume collection of fanfic in Chinese. Now, obviously I can't read anything, but it has great pieces of artwork throughout, which I was happily hunting through. It's a collection of translated and original fanfic, and one of the fics is a translation of Kings of the Wheel. Including two gorgeous (and wheee, worksafe!) Harry/Lucius illustrations. Not only did they mail me the collection (which gobsmacked me altogether), but also a poster and beautiful assortment of bookmark art with all my favourite characters :). Which will join [info - personal] pennswoods's lovely OotP illustration, also a gift from last week...

*squees incoherently*

This has been a really great fandom week!

Salt-drenched waffling, ending in fic search

Today was set aside for finally stepping up writing my [info - community] ownficfest piece. Then the weather was no end of gorgeous and I went to the beach instead, which is, say, 500m from my door (ok, it's a teensy one and lots only accessible at low tide, but...). Walked the breakwater, and then just sat there for a couple of hours. The sea does that to me - saps every desire to move or be elsewhere right out of my bones. I sort of needed that, though - the week was stressful as hell.

I *did* mull over the fic, however, whose middle part is giving me grief... beginning and ending are bagged, but the middle 'chapters' require an effective mix of saying everything they need to say and being crisp and concise while at the moment I'm just waffling along. It just needs to sort out in my head before anything else (and doesn't have much time to do so, damn!).

Came home smelling like a herring gull, had a shower and a nap, then made a pot of potato soup which didn't even turn out too bad (as anyone who knows my cooking will note with astonishment).

Turned on the computer to find one of the most blush-inducing lovely bits of feedback *ever* in my inbox, which was the cherry on an already pretty good day :).

Bought books by Peter Morwood, Louise Cooper and Ricardo Pinto on Friday, and finished Ellen Kushner's 'Swordspoint' this morning, which is *excellent* (the short stories too!).

And now I suddenly have this craving for AU fic where Harry goes to St Brutus' instead of Hogwarts. I'm sure there's such an animal out there (there's *everything* out there), but where?

On Spiders, Dreamwidth and Olives...

Dear mini-spiders in my bedroom!

In principle, I don't mind your presence because you're relatively tiny, as long as you stay out of my way. However, dangling from the ceiling on a bit of webbing, right above my face when I'm lying in bed? Not on! Neither is running round the lightbulb above my stomach. Sorry, I hope the trip through the toilet wasn't *too* wet. Agh! I didn't quite need the mental image of you happily dropping on my face when I'm asleep!

That said, I spent today sorting out my dragons and updating my Dreamwidth reading list (as some of you might have noticed, *g*). Including a few names I've seen attached to fic I loved and hadn't worked up the nerve to friend on LJ :). Am feeling like some weird stalker now. That said, is it just me who'd feel bad about subscribing to someone's journal without giving them access? Don't think I've figured out Dreamwidth entirely yet...

Had pizza for dinner, yum! But walked 45 minutes to get it, so it's not too bad ;). Realised I've developed the strangest affection for olives - which I hated until about a year ago, and suddenly am in love with. Weird, because my taste hasn't otherwise changed since my late teens...

And, um, if someone should still feel inclined to volunteer betaing for [info - community] ownficfest writers (or to mention it to others who might?), they could (purely hypothetically, of course!) do it here :).

If you're so inclined, you can sign up to volunteer here. Pleaze?
